The Retail Theft Education Program, which is a division of The Domestic Outreach Center (DOC),
believes that education is a key component to successfully minimizing the occurrence of
retail theft in our community. The program is appropriate for people who have been court
ordered and are first time offenders or have never had the opportunity to enroll in
retail theft classes. The purpose of The Retail Theft Program is to effectively reduce
retail theft by using cost effective group classes. The methodology is psycho-educational and
our curriculum is two-fold. We first teach awareness of the legal aspects and many negative
ramifications retail theft has on the local economy. The second part includes the behavior
modification component in which we stress the importance of accepting behavior for oneself
and being held accountable for ones’ actions.
